Martha graduated from University of Maine, Orono in 2004 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal and Veterinary Science and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. She took a year off and moved to upstate NY, worked for a small animal surgeon and competed her heart horse, Victory at Arlington “Arli”, on the hunter/jumper circuit.

She then got accepted to veterinary school at Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine located on the island of St. Kitts in the West Indies. She spent three years of her veterinary education in the Caribbean and then transitioned to her clinical training at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. She graduated from Ross University in January 2009.

Martha moved home to Maine and became a practicing equine veterinarian for Blackstrap Hill Veterinary Clinic. In November 2013, Martha purchased the practice, and started Conaree Equine, Inc out of her house in Gorham, ME.

In 2016, Martha and her husband purchased their dream home, a 14-acre farm in Buxton, ME which has become the hub of Conaree Equine with its 11-stall barn, beautiful paddocks, and new office that was just completed in 2017.

Martha is heavily involved in race track medicine, reproduction and traditional farm calls. Her special interests are in reproduction, lameness as well as equine and production swine routine preventative care and medicine.

She currently resides on the farm in Buxton, ME with her loving husband, Billy Smith and their 4 dogs.
