Martha K. Smith, DVM

A native of Maine, Martha was raised in the small town of Whitefield, ME.  Her interest in horses and large animals started at a young age.  Her grandparents bred and raised Morgan show horses at Kwinwood Morgan Farm in Nobleboro, ME.  Throughout her life she has owned a variety of horses from retired Standardbred race horses to hunter jumpers.  She currently cares for her grandfather’s last horse Korey who is the ripe old age of 32 and still going strong.  She also owns Shady Character, a Standardbred breeding stallion.

Martha graduated from University of Maine, Orono in 2004 with a Bachelors Degree in Animal and Veterinary Science and a Bachelors Degree in Biology.  She then attended veterinary school at Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine located on the island of St. Kitts in the West Indies.  She spent three years of her veterinary education in the Caribbean and then spent her clinical training at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.  She graduated from Ross University in January 2009.

Martha moved home to Maine and became a practicing equine veterinarian for Blackstrap Hill Veterinary Clinic under a great mentor.  In November 2013, Martha purchased the practice, and started Conaree Equine, Inc out of her house in Gorham, ME.  Martha is heavily involved in race track medicine and traditional farm calls.  She is also heavily involved in and loves reproduction work.  Her special interests are in equine and swine routine preventative care and medicine, dentistry, geriatric care, neonatal/foal medicine and lameness.

She currently resides in Gorham, ME with her loving husband, their three dogs (Diesel, Trott and Fenway) and Korey.

Nicole Doyle, Office Manager/Technician

Nikki was born and raised in Buxton, ME.  She graduated with high honors from Bonny Eagle High School and studied Liberal Arts at the University of Southern Maine.  Her love for horses started young when she began riding at a small stable in Hollis, ME.  Her equine experience has had many faces, ranging from winning a harness race at Cornish Fair to working at a Thoroughbred Farm in Ocala, FL.  She also has experience in the small animal veterinary field; but her passion has always brought her back to horses.

Nikki has been working in the equine field for years with Blackstrap Hill Veterinary Clinic, KDK Standardbreds and now Conaree Equine, Inc.  She enjoys the fact that every day is a learning experience and a chance to grow.  As the office manager at Conaree Equine, Nikki wears a lot of hats every day.  She strives for success with a smile on her face and always has a calming voice in times of chaos.

Nikki is currently introducing her love for her horses and animals to her son Dalton, who loves spending time at farms.  Nikki resides in Raymond, ME with her son and their German Shepard, Holly.
